Speaking of Special Needs...
Presentations by Professional Speaker and Advocate Karen M. James
Is someone with special needs part of your world?
Whether you're working in the field, majoring in it, teaching it, or living it every day, there's a "Speaking of Special Needs..." presentation for you—one you can relate to, learn from, and maybe even be inspired by.

Stories. Struggles. Suggestions. Successes.
Meet Karen James
Karen James, mother of a daughter with a rare genetic syndrome, offers a heartfelt and honest perspective on the everyday realities of raising a child with intellectual and physical disabilities. She shares the challenges, the joys, the daily “to-do’s,” and the lessons she’s learned about advocacy, resilience, and love along the way.
With a little humor and a lot of reality, Karen shares her personal journey through:
-
The highs and lows of raising a child with special needs who is also medically complex
-
Navigating systems—educational, medical, and community—that often feel anything but caregiver-friendly
-
Practical tips for how the process of navigating systems can be improved—for parents, educators, and community or state agencies alike

Karen and her daughter, Natalie, at Delaware's Legislative Hall after an advocacy day for nursing care.

"I highly recommend Karen for presentations during special education professional development opportunities, university courses in special education, and any opportunity where special education advocacy is needed."
Ann N., M.Ed, adjunct professor, Immaculata University
